Making Space for Our Children

Dear Christ Church,

Each Sunday I love hearing the laughter of kids in the courtyard between services. I love the coloring circle of elementary age children in the 9am service. I love blessing babies as they smile and squirm receiving their first birthday blessing or watching children excitedly jump up during the procession. Our community is blessed by this richness of childhood.

These past two years of lockdown and regathering have proven difficult for families. Our children’s ministry pivoted early in 2020 and Terrice, our Children’s Director, began making weekly learning videos as part of the livestream worship. Throughout 2021, as we continued to regather in person, we returned to two worship services on Sunday. As families began returning to church, we found our 9am service quickly became the most popular. In response, we restarted Kids Quest at the 9am service. While restarting was a blessing, it also created a unique challenge; a 9am service with Kids Quest and an overcrowded nursery and an 11am service with an open nursery but no Kids Quest. Even my family felt the impact of navigating services with a little one in the nursery and two in Kids Quest.

Families, I know you have made sacrifices while we continue to regather. Hang in there a few more weeks as we work hard to make space for everyone in Christ Church, especially our children.

Beginning August 28th we’ll resume Kids Quest in both the 9am and 11am services! We are working hard to hire more caregivers so that our nurseries are able to accommodate all children who come on Sundays. We’re even hoping to have 1-2 portable buildings set up later this semester to provide extra space for our nurseries!

In order to accomplish all these goals and make space for our growing children’s ministry, we need help.

*Nursery Caregivers:  If you know someone who is 18 years or older and loves being with little ones, please have them apply to be a paid Sunday morning caregiver.

*11 a.m. Kids Quest leaders: We need 10 more people to have a full volunteer team to provide age-appropriate discipleship for K-5th grade. You’re given the curriculum, leaders’ guides, and serve with a co-leader in this wonderful ministry. Register for our upcoming training on August 14th.

*There are some families currently attending the 9 am that have flexibility to join the 11 am service. If that’s you, could you help us make space in the 9am service by worshiping at 11am?

Peace,

Matt+
