Dear Christ Church,
This past Sunday we got to introduce you to Jonathan Kindberg, who is leading a new initiative in our diocese (Churches for the Sake of Others) called The Diaspora Network. This initiative seeks to encourage, equip, and gather immigrant and diaspora churches and leaders within our diocese, not unlike how the Matthew 25 Initiative seeks to encourage, equip, and gather Anglicans ministering to the vulnerable and marginalized in our province.
Jonathan mentioned an upcoming event that I’d like to highlight again here: Encountering the Immigrant Community in Austin. In many ways the story of Christianity’s movement around the globe, from the events described in book of Acts up to today, is the story of migration—the story of people who have left their homes to be strangers in foreign lands and how they have brought their Christian faith with them or have encountered the gospel in their new home. We exist in a moment in which people from many nations are coming to our city, and this presents opportunities for the good news of Jesus to be spread, both to and from Austin. And there are about 150 immigrant churches in the Austin area, churches in which Jesus is worshiped and followed as the King of all.
On Saturday, July 16th, Christ Church parishioners and Church of the Cross parishioners are invited to join Jonathan and his team for an afternoon of lunch, listening, and a short prayer walk. This is designed to be an immersive learning experience for anyone who wants to become acquainted with what God is doing in immigrant communities here in our own city, and learn how to get involved.
