What is the Mission Team?

In the Fall of 2012, the Mission Team was created for the purpose of leading Christ Church in the local and global cause of Gospel mission. We do this in step with and empowered by the Spirit, listening to his Word, to his voice, to the guidance and wisdom that comes from our history and our community. The following are some of the ways the Missions Team will lead Christ Church in Mission:

  • Prayer

We want to root our vision and program in prayer, and in ways that touch the entire congregation.

  • Parish Action

We want to regularly expose Christ Church to what God is doing and what the needs and opportunities are in Austin and in longer-term missions partnerships around the world by coordinating service opportunities and short-term missions trips.

  • Parish Education

We want to intentionally look for year-round opportunities to keep the local and global causes of mission before the congregation through opportunities like equipping classes, resource lists, and special mission involvement in the children’s and youth ministries.

  • Missionary Support

We want to prayerfully steward our financial resources and direct our partnerships with local and global cross-cultural missionaries and organizations. We are committed to communicating and caring for our missionary partners.

Mission Partnerships

Christ Church is a church in and for the city of Austin, committed to bless and serve our city through holistic proclamation of the Good News of Jesus in both word and deed. We seek to love the beautiful variety of people God has brought to Austin, and to engage the culture from a variety of angles – in government, the arts, business, education, the non-profit sector, and in our daily vocations. We also partner with individuals and organizations who share our passion for transformational discipleship, reconciliation, justice, and compassion, both in Austin and beyond.

Church Under the Bridge / Mission: Possible! Austin – Austin, TX

Mission: Possible! Austin exists to connect the Body of Christ across Austin with individuals in under-resourced areas for personal transformation through life on life relationships and Christ-centered community development. One of their three core programs is Church Under the Bridge (CUB), a combined effort of churches from all over Austin serving the homeless. Each Sunday, volunteers at CUB tangibly demonstrate the love of God to the people living on our streets through fellowship, and the provision of hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags. Christ Church sponsors CUB, which meets under the I-35 bridge between 7th and 8th streets, on the first Sunday of every month.
