Academy of the Apostles

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Communications, Coronavirus

Dear Christ Church,

Can you imagine attending the Academy of the Apostles? To receive and be changed by the instruction of personal friends of Jesus, the first apostles, like those in Acts 2 who “devoted to themselves to the apostles’ teaching”—what a privilege!

Those apostles, in the flesh, are not available to us today, but we do have the same Spirit and the same power of the resurrection. And we do have their God-breathed words in Holy Scripture, summarized in the Creeds. Here are two ways (that might have escaped your notice) to join us this fall as we seek to be more fully DEVOTED followers of Jesus Christ:

1] The DEVOTED weekly devotional guide. This is a simple daily devotional guide that tracks with our weekly themes. Last Sunday Fr. Matt preached on “Word,” so this week we’ve had further scripture readings, catechism questions, and reflection questions related to the power of God’s Word in the frontlines of our daily life. There are also prayers consistent with the theme and for the vulnerable, suffering, and “least of these.” I love to imagine our whole church family immersed in the same devotions each week!

2] Midday Prayer. Each Tuesday from 12:30-1pm I lead us in prayer and a brief teaching. I am loving getting to teach through the ACNA Catechism’s section on the Apostles’ Creed. I didn’t know how much fun I would have with this! Also, if you jump on at 12:15 you and I and other early birds get to chat and catch up a little.

May God shape our thoughts, ignite our hearts, and equip our hands as devoted disciples this fall!

Peace, Cliff+

P.S. In his sermon last Sunday Fr. Matt mentioned this app for bible memory that some of us have used. Right now I am memorizing Psalm 1 and Acts 2:42-47. I love this app!
