Dear Christ Church,
For the past month we’ve been working hard on a regathering plan, which I explained to you in last Sunday’s service, just as Covid-19 cases began spiking again in Austin. This plan involved a combination of Neighborhood Church and a small Sunday gathering at 112 Medina St. This week the City of Austin regressed our status from Stage 3 to Stage 4, a heightened state of restrictions. Our own Christ Church Health Team, comprised of physicians and other health professionals, has likewise recommended that we indefinitely delay the start date of our regathering plan due to the spike in cases.
We deeply long to gather again, face to face. The resurgence of the virus is disappointing—more than that, it is devastating for some of its victims and their loved ones—but the implications for our desire to be together as a vibrant community . . . this is disappointing news. And it is cause for us to renew our commitment to staying connecting in other way we can: phone calls, zoom gatherings, socially distanced time with a friend, Sunday services through the live stream, Midday (Tuesdays) and Evening (Wednesdays) Prayer, and following our Enews and social media accounts.
We do plan to move forward with the necessary planning and organization for our next phase of regathering at Christ Church, so that we can do so immediately upon our next determination of a start date. So, stay tuned to all our forms of communication and community in order to understand and participate in the process!
Lastly, Join us this Sunday as I launch a new summer sermon series on Colossians. We will walk through this powerful epistle, section by section in the weeks/months to come. I would suggest reading through the whole book in one sitting, as we journey through God’s Word together.
