Hodgepodge Friday

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Frontpage News

Dear Christ Church,

Jesus says to each of us, “follow me.” One of the ways we do that is to Love Where We Live. We want to love neighbors in our residential neighborhoods, love our common neighborhood in the downtown Eastside, and love this great city.

This Sunday, after each service we will hold a Local Mission Fair in the courtyard, an opportunity for you to learn (1) about a few ways God is on the move around us; (2) how you and/or your friends and small group can love where we live; (3) and meet the people of our church who are serving in these places.

Jump right in to loving where we live tomorrow with the “It’s My Park Day Project”(Saturday, March 7th, 9am to 12pm). Come serve the neighborhood around Christ Church and care for creation by spreading mulch around trees at Pan American Neighborhood Park (behind Zavala Elementary). Bring your whole family to help work and play on the playground. See details and sign up here.

We will begin service this Sunday with the Great Litany, a thorough soul-scrubbing as we confess every imaginable wrong in ourselves and the world, and intercede for every imaginable need in ourselves and the world. It’s a personal and cosmic spring cleaning, as the procession winds through the congregation. This physical weaving through the people of God is an embodied expression of the weaving together of our congregational confessions and petitions, offering them up to God in one voice. Come early!

We are also starting a four-week Lenten sermon series this Sunday, People of the Passion, in which we do a profile of four personal encounters with Jesus during his final week: Peter, Simon the Cyrene, the women at the cross, and the two thieves crucified with Jesus.

Grace and peace,
