Dear Dawn Dwellers,
We live at the threshold of the Light.
Advent. Last Sunday I gave an overview of Advent (you can listen here, if you missed it), summarizing this season of watching for the Light with the following three statements: During Advent . . . we remember the story (of salvation past) with joyful wonder because Christ came; we live the drama (of salvation now) with a yearning ache because Christ comes, and; we await the final act (of salvation to come) with hopeful preparation because Christ will come again. Join us for Advent II this Sunday!
Celtic Fun. It’s here! The Ceili and Men’s Chili Cook-off is a highlight of the year at Christ Church, with Celtic music, dancing, a bagpiper and dozens of amazing chilis, right after the 2nd service! Men, register your chili now right here. . . it’s not too late. Everyone who does not bring a chili, please bring cornbread or a dessert to share. And bring a friend!
End of year letter from the Vestry and Rector. If you haven’t yet read it, here is a word from the Vestry and me, looking back and forward at the year’s end.
Bishop Todd’s Address to Clergy. Christ Church is a parish of the Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others, with the Rt. Rev. Todd Hunter as our bishop. I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but want to bring attention to it again . . . last September, at a retreat for all the clergy of the diocese, Bishop Todd gave an incredible opening address, so rich, wise, and insightful—it made me thankful to serve under such godly leadership. Here it is. I hope you can set aside 45 minutes to listen and ponder.
Peace on Earth,
P.S . Happy St. Nicholas Day!
