Baptism Gives Our Vocation

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Frontpage News

Dear Christ Church,

Upon our baptism we receive new life, a new purpose, and new power through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This is the moment when we receive our greatest vocation: to be whole-life disciples of Jesus, who love God and neighbor in the church and the world.

At both services this Sunday we will pour out of the sanctuary into the courtyard where, surrounding the baptismal fountain, several children will receive this Holy Sacrament.

We will also hear from guest preacher, Dr. Steve Garber, on the vocation of every believer to take our place in God’s restoration of all things. This would be a great Sunday to invite a workplace friend to church. Is there someone you know who might be challenged or encouraged by hearing a beautiful vision for the meaning of of everyday life and work? Let’s step out with bold faith in our invitations!

Finally, these words that we will be praying over the newly baptized this Sunday, remind us all of the grace and power of our own baptism:

“We receive this person into the congregation of Christ’s flock, and sign him with the sign of the Cross, in token that from this time forwards he shall not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified, and courageously to fight under his banner against sin, the world, and the devil; and to continue Christ’s faithful soldier and servant until his life’s end. Amen.”

Peace, Cliff+
