Dear Christ Church,
Last fall I posted here about the opening of a search for our Director of Vocation, an exciting and innovative new staff position at Christ Church. This is a catalytic role to inspire, equip, and mobilize the people of Christ Church, according to our calling, in workplaces, neighborhoods, relationships, areas of influence, and the whole world.
In case you missed it, you can find that post here, where I also discuss the biblical meaning of “vocation” in the context of our call to “whole life discipleship.”
I am pleased to announce the hire of Dr. Bill Walker to fill this position, beginning mid-May. Bill is originally from Austin before college, graduate school, and jobs took him away for the past 15 years. He and his wife Whitney are happy to come back with their two boys, Liam (2.5 yrs.) and Roy (5 months).
Bill studied Economics and International Business at Baylor before pursuing graduate theological studies at Truett Seminary and a Ph.D. in theology from Claremont Graduate University. While at home in the academy, Bill also has a deep love for the church and the formation of her people, where he hopes to see Christians discover both the richness of our common calling in Christ, and the ways God has called each of us to live it out according to our unique story and context.
In Bill’s current position as Assistant Director of Spiritual Formation at Truett Seminary, he is involved in helping Baylor undergrads and Truett grad students understand and follow their vocation. Though ordination was not part of the search criteria, Bill also happens to be an Anglican priest. In his role at Christ Church he will not serve as another Associate Rector, but we’re grateful to have some additional support when needed.
Beginning this August, we will kick off a focus on our core value of Whole Life Discipleship, centered on gaining a clear sense of our vocation in the church and world. Bill will hit the ground running to help us prepare over the summer for what I believe will be a transformative year in the life of Christ Church.
Called and commissioned, with you,
