Transferring the Ownership

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Frontpage News

Dear Christ Church Friends,

Two weeks from this Sunday we will stream forward, with full hearts, to present our financial pledges for the year. It is a joy to give, not from compulsion, but with freedom and gladness.

In his outstanding book on the subject, Money, Possessions, and Eternity, Randy Alcorn writes, “God owns all things, whether we recognize it or not. But life becomes much clearer—and in some respects much easier—when we consciously recognize it. The question isn’t whether we theoretically affirm God’s ownership. The question is whether we’ve deliberately transferred the ownership of ourselves and all our assets to him. Have we invited him to be what Scripture says he is—Creator, Owner, and Controller of us, family, possessions, and ‘our’ money? Have we extended the invitation again after we’ve forgotten and taken things back into our hands?  This self-surrender to God is the beginning of true stewardship.”

Over the next few weeks, we invite you into the paradox of flourishing through self-surrender, receiving through giving, and a life of “true stewardship.” You can use this form to make your annual pledge, and this link to set up your recurring gifts.

P.S. This Sunday we will continue our sermon series on “Friendship”.
