Drew and Meghan

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Frontpage News

Dear Christ Church,

Please join me in deep gratitude for the ministry of Drew Smith on our staff team.

Many years ago we created a budget category called “New Initiatives,” a way to resource missional innovation and strategic opportunities that we discern. A few years later we applied these funds to create a part-time pastoral internship to raise up new leaders, like Sarah Smith, who was our first intern.  After the internship, she and her husband Drew job-shared a full-time staff role until Drew took it all when Sarah stepped down to welcome their third child, Olive, last fall. This role had a three-year commitment and funding plan, which was completed last summer.

We are very grateful that Drew was able to remain on staff longer in order to help us through the demands of the move to Medina St. Maybe you were there as Drew led our 2016 and 2017 Parish Retreats, helping us to dive into God’s Word with inductive bible study skills. Or maybe you experienced his ability to design formational experiences and encounters with God, as with our 2016 and 2017 summer Prayer Vigils. Or maybe you’ve encountered his wisdom as demonstrated through his leadership of our Mission Team or involvement with Living Waters and Church Under the Bridge. Or his pastoral care. We’ve all been blessed, unknowingly, by his help building operational systems and infrastructures. As Drew rolls off staff December 31st, please join me and the rest of our staff in expressing our gratitude for his humble ministry among us.

Also, last month I announced here that Meghan Scully, my Assistant, would also be leaving staff soon. Today is Meghan’s last day. Originally, her last day was going to be April 13th of this year. But when Christine’s accident occurred on April 10, she stayed on to help see me and my family and Christ Church through the crisis. Words fail. I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude for her sacrificial gift. Thank you, Meghan. Thank you.

Peace, Cliff+

P.S. Don’t forget to bring a chili this Sunday, men. And everyone: don’t forget to bring a friend and a dessert for the Ceili and Chili Cookoff after the 11am service!

P.P.S. If you wish to follow updates on Christine see recent posts here and listen to her description of her days here (in the middle of the sermon).
