Dear Christ Church,
It’s one of those weeks when I really want to tell you about some things, but they’re completely unrelated to each other, so I call these posts Hodgepodge Friday. So, three things to be thinking about, one of them tonight.
(1) In light of the tragic shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue, killing eleven people, Archbishop Foley Beach has commended the #showupforshabbat initiative as an act of solidarity. One of the organizers describes its intent like this, “The community of conscience must stand as one, whether in the face of the hate-motivated attack against a black church in Charleston, which took nine lives, or a synagogue in Pittsburgh, which took 11 lives. We are determined to ensure that love triumphs over hate, good over evil, unity over division. That’s our America.” Carolyn Roman, one of our church staff, has contacted Congregation Beth Israel on Shoal Creek Blvd. to ask if some of our parishioners could join them tonight for their Shabbat service at 7:30 pm. They were most welcoming, but would like to know how many to expect. If you would like to show your support in this way, please read the Archbishop’s message, and email firstname.lastname@example.org to tell her how many will be in your party.
(2) Core Class. Want to know what makes the heart of Christ Church beat? Is exploring membership your next step to making Christ Church home? On Sunday, November 11th, we hold our next Core Class, 1:00-4:00pm at 112 Medina St.. I want to invite you to this next step of exploring the commitment. (3) East Austin Studio Tour. Christ Church is now an official stop on the East Austin Studio Tour, with nine visual artists of our parish showing their work in the Parish Hall. Come by, bring a friend, and tell a friend to check it out the weekends of Nov. 10-11 and 17-18. More details below.
