Dear Christ Church,
We are hiring for an exciting and innovative new position I want to tell you about. But first, some context.
We are called to follow Jesus with whole lives, in the whole of life. Let me break that down a bit. By “whole lives,” I mean that our entire selves—heart, mind, and strength—are renewed in Christ. God wants to heal the broken places in our hearts, transform us by the renewing of our minds, and strengthen us by his Spirit for holy living. We are made whole; that’s what it means to be called to follow Jesus with whole lives.
We are also called to follow Jesus in the “whole of life”: in the kitchen and the classroom, in the cubicle and the fitness center, in the art studio and courtroom, in the garden and at the play date. Our calling as disciples of Jesus is not limited to our church activities and private devotional times. All of our life and every arena of society is the stage on which disciples of Jesus tell the divine story. By the way, this is precisely the theme of our Parish Retreat next weekend. Check it out. Registration closes soon!
In short, we are called to whole life discipleship.
Did you notice that I’ve described this as a calling? You have a particular way of being a disciple in this world, a particular temperament and set of aptitudes, traits, experiences, and giftings, a unique way of participating in God’s mission to make all things new. That’s your calling, your vocation.
The new position for which we’re hiring is a Director of Vocation, which is a catalytic role to inspire, equip, and mobilize the people of Christ Church to live their unique and God-given callings in their workplaces, neighborhoods, relationships, areas of influence, and the whole world.

Called and committed,
