Dear Christ Church,
Ministry in the context of change, major deadlines, and intense circumstances will test the character of a staff team. That about sums up the past six months in our offices. The composition and character of this team that God has assembled at Christ Church is remarkable! They truly embody the prayer with which we conclude worship each week, “. . . grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Strength. Courage. Love and service. Gladness and singleness of heart. That about sums up our staff.
Please join me, with Christ Church hospitality, in welcoming the newest member of our team, Amy Saxbury! She will be Christ Church’s first full-time Youth Pastor, having just started this week, and jumping right in to our first youth group meeting of the year. We are delighted to have her on board. Her husband, Michael, works in Information Technology, and they have three children: Jadyn, Evryst, and McKynlee.
Amy’s entire adult life has been oriented around building community and making disciples among youth. She brings a passion for student ministries, and thirteen years as a Youth Pastor in Denver before moving to back Austin. Her ideas and enthusiasm, together with her experience, have us thanking God for his wonderful provision.
On a separate note, but related to God’s provision, Bishop Todd Hunter will be joining us for a Building Consecration next Saturday, September 22nd at 7pm. This rich sacramental service of the Book of Common Prayer begins outdoors and processes into the sanctuary, followed by a blessing of the different spaces and items (baptismal font, table, “pulpit,” instruments, etc.) used for God’s mission and glory. We’ll conclude with Holy Eucharist. I hope you can join us!
