Dear Christ Church,
A blessed Eastertide to you all!
Deacons. With Sarah Smith now a deacon (congratulations, Sarah!), we now have four deacons at Christ Church: Terri Fisher, Brian Wallace, Sarah Smith, and Matt Dampier (until his ordination to the priesthood on May 27th). We’re grateful for their special ministry of servanthood in three primary expressions: 1) representing Christ and his people to arenas external to the church, especially among the vulnerable and marginalized; 2) assisting in some of the sacraments; and 3) being agents of compassion within the parish to those hurting or ailing.
Baptisms. This Sunday will be a rich day of Word and Sacrament as we celebrate both Holy Baptism and Communion. Please join us in prayer for the baptismal candidates, Mae Jackson and Marta Ovitt, that they would walk in the fullness of God’s love all the days of their lives.
One week at a time. As a staff and Vestry, we’ve shared a mutual trust and joy in working together and supporting each other over the last couple of weeks since Christine Warner’s accident. As Christine continues to recover, there is ongoing discernment of what this new reality will look like for the Warner family. Cliff is taking things one week at a time, being consulted on high-level decisions that impact Christ Church, exercising wisdom over his return to the office and Sunday morning participation. Know that we, Christ Church staff and Vestry, are here for you. For any pastoral needs, Matt Dampier, our Associate Rector, is available, as are our other pastoral staff members, Jodi Wicker and Drew Smith.
Resurrection Community. We see you, Christ Church. We see you practicing the Resurrection in ordinary, everyday moments like enjoying the company of friends and strangers alike, exploring our downtown Eastside neighborhood; making meals for each other with cheerful hearts; boldly telling your coworker about the amazing ways you’ve seen God at work; relishing in the spring sunshine. We also see you practice Resurrection in your defiant joy, protesting against death; standing firm in resisting despair; and trusting that our Triune God is our Defender, Healer, Redeemer. We are his Resurrection people!
Under His Mercy,
The Christ Church Staff and Vestry
