Dear Christ Church Family,
This past Monday night, Matt Dampier, our new Associate Rector, pulled into Austin with a loaded U-Haul and his car in tow, with a heart eager to jump into the generative community of Christ Church…and we are thrilled to officially welcome him!
It was exactly six months ago that I announced Matt was hired to be our new Associate Rector after a two-year search. Since then, Matt has visited us on a number of occasions to start building community. His wife, Lexie, and two children, Lucy (7) and Charlie (3) have also traveled to Austin to be with us, spending time with us at our Parish Retreat. This past November at Christ Church Plano, we celebrated Matt’s ordination to the diaconate. While enthusiastically saying, “yes” to the Lord’s call to Christ Church, we know that it has not come without the ache of many “goodbyes” in Kentucky, and temporary separation from his family until they arrive in May. Particularly over these next few months of transition, let’s cover the Dampiers in prayer, interceding on their behalf for:
- Meaningful, creative and fun family connection in the midst of the distance;
- The timely selling of their home in Lexington, and the logistics of buying their new home in Austin.
- Matt and his family to embrace the grace and challenge of the process of becoming known at Christ Church.
This Sunday, Matt will preach and we will also have a small reception after each service in celebration of Matt’s landing in Austin and being a part of our team on staff at Christ Church. Stop by and give him a Texas and Christ Church welcome! Also mark your calendars for Sunday, May 27th for Matt’s ordination to the priesthood, with Lexie, Lucy, and Charlie joining us by then!
God’s kindness to us is clear in so many ways, including the beautiful scene of the whole Christ Church family streaming down the aisle to bring our pledges and offerings to the Lord last Sunday, an embodied act of our desire to participate in his mission and worship him with our whole lives. If you weren’t with us last week, you can bring your pledge card this Sunday or mail it to the church.
