Community Building Opportunities

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes, Frontpage News

Dear Christ Church Family,

In case you missed it, check out last week’s introduction of our new Director of Children’s Ministry, Heather Summers. That’s her in the photo with her husband Michael. You might recognize them as regular parishioners and small group leaders at Christ Church the past year. Welcome to the staff team, Heather!

It’s August!  As we shockingly find ourselves in the waning of leisurely summer schedules, we start to gear up for back-to-school supplies shopping, the flood of new and returning students to Austin universities, and a bit of an uptick in the pace of our days.  It also means the onset of exciting things stirring within Christ Church as we anticipate returning to some of our normal community rhythms like the Fall Kickoff, small groups, and our Parish Retreat.  These are some of our most memorable and significant community building events for our whole congregation that you won’t want to miss!

Fall Kickoff. Food, family, fun, friends—old and new! Come and join the fun at the TexFed immediately following the 11am service on August 27 as we kickoff our fall semester.  It will be a wonderful indoor-outdoor party and a chance for you to see people you’ve missed lately, as everyone returns from summer travels.  Christ Church will provide the main dish and we’ll build our own ice cream sundaes for dessert.  Please bring a side dish to share.  We need assistance with setup and cleanup so if you can help with that, contact Bev Harstad ( | 512-826-3094).

Small Groups are, by far, the best way to experience community at Christ Church. Groups meet all around Austin on different nights of the week and will resume the week of August 27.  For help in getting connected to a small group, contact Jodi Wicker, Pastor of Connection and Community (  You’ll also be able to meet the small group leaders and research some of the groups at the Fall Kickoff.

Parish Retreat
Registration for our Parish Retreat opens this Sunday, August 6 (look for registration details in Sunday’s bulletin).  Make sure your calendars are marked and register for our retreat at Highland Lakes Camp, October 20 – 22. We will take a deep dive and further explore together our current focus of “Love Where We Live”.
