Ceili & Kids

Sarah SmithCliffNotes

Dear Christ Church,

It’s Ceili Sunday! For those of you who have never been, it needs to be experienced to be understood. There’s a chili cook-off. There’s a bagpiper. There are professional Irish dancers. And there’s a unique opportunity to sit and sup with people you pass in the hallway on a Sunday morning. There’s still time to sign up to compete!

But first I have a few questions for you:

  • How do you deal with times when you doubt God’s existence or wonder, “What if there isn’t a god?”
  • What made you really accept Christ?
  • How do you counteract the moodiness that you feel in your teen years?

These are but a few of the questions submitted by youth during our “Ask Me Anything” Youth Group a few weeks ago. The youth at Christ Church are both fun and – obviously – insightful. And our youth leaders walk alongside middle and high school students as they grow in understanding and experience of God and His Church in ways that are beautiful, fun, and challenging.

I used to love Highlights Magazine as a kid, and my favorite pages were “Find the Hidden Objects,” where something like a shoe was cleverly concealed in the wood grain of a tree trunk. Case in point: the photo to the right, where you can see the smiling faces of our lovely youth leaders. There are two hidden forms – do you see them?

That’s right! Two youth group leader families are expecting! We are so thankful for the ways the Lloyds and the Steidls have loved the youth well, and are happy to bless and send them into a time of drawing in as their littles arrive. We’re also trusting that God will fill their places in the Spring with Christ Church parishioners who have a heart to build into the next generation.

Whether or not you had prepared answers to those questions (and often we don’t!), if you are someone who has a heart that is open or tender to this age group and the significant questions and relationships forming during those years I invite you to consider serving with the Youth Group.

During the Ceili I will have a booth set up where you can hear more and ask questions about what serving with the youth looks like. Bekah will also have a booth to share about serving with Kid’s Quest and Faith Explorers. Stop on by, and maybe bring us a bowl! (Bekah says no beans – Texas Forever).

Peace,
Sarah
