Monday School

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes

Dear Christ Church,

The process of transformation is sometimes called “spiritual formation,” which describes the life-long process of being shaped by the Holy Spirit into the likeness of Christ for the sake of others and to the glory of God. This is central to the mission of Christ Church, and one of our core values (Changed Lives).

How do we do that? We are formed in many different ways, but there is one particular setting that Christ Church is offering for you to focus on a specific arena of growth: Monday School. The “classroom” provides a mode of instruction and learning that helps us to focus on a specific topic for a limited amount of time. We have some great teachers lined up for the next six weeks.

Tammy Santoro and Myron Brown will teach a class on prayer. Myron has taught in a church setting for many years, and will join Tammy, who has lead our healing prayer ministry with great sensitivity and skill. I love the combo of these two and how the team-teaching approach here brings together unique gifts and skills. This class will cover great teaching, discussion, and include the practice of prayer.

Drew Smith, one of our Pastoral Assistants on staff, will teach on a topic he is passionate about: reaching out to others with the good news of Jesus. He has spent most of his adult life training others for mission and outreach. Mission, like prayer, is a topic that sometimes intimidates us, where we often think we could do more or better, but don’t know how. This class might be a great next step of growth.

Lastly, Bryan Brown and Jonathan Schupack will co-teach a class on the power of an integrated spirituality of Faith & Work. Bryan is on our pastoral staff, and Jonathan is in the marketplace; they both bring deep insight into the joy of bringing these worlds together.

Paul reminded the church in Corinth that “. . . we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” Which one of these classes might be a great next transformational step for you?
