Dear Christ Church,
In the past two weeks I have had the chance to witness three beautiful expressions of the kingdom of God in our great city of Austin, one unique global project Christ Church helped sponsor, and one very beautiful day.
Three Kingdom Expressions In Our City.
(1) After spending some time at LifeCare Pregnancy Services encouraging their staff last week, I left moved and super impressed with the work they are doing. Their mission is to meet the “needs of women, men and their families, who are facing an unplanned pregnancy.” They are doing just that with excellence, and with the sacrificial love of Jesus.
(2) On two different occasions in the past two weeks Christ Church-ers and I (Our Community Development Team and our staff) served lunch to 300 homeless people at Angel House Soup Kitchen, across the street from our Medina St. campus. What an amazing ministry!
(3) Earlier this week Eric Stumberg and I were invited to present together at a strategic evening hosted by the Austin Bridge Builder’s Alliance. They asked 25 CEO’s and 25 pastors to come together and, after a presentation from Mayor Steve Adler, discuss how the church and the marketplace might together be part of “seeking the welfare of the city.” Every vocation, from the workplace to the home to volunteer service, is a context in which we get to participate in God’s work to make all things new.
One Unique Project. Christ Church Austin partnered with Fuller Studio to produce this video capturing a unique conversation between world-renowned musician Bono, and beloved theologian, Eugene Peterson.
It’s a Beautiful Day. My bride of 22 years was born on April 29. The day of her birth was one beautiful day. Happy Birthday, Christine!
