Whether you are a “newcomer” or and “oldtimer” at Christ Church I hope you can join us this Sunday for a very important update on our Deep Roots, New Season initiatives. For those of us who went through the Deep Roots, New Season experience together, this will be a vital update. For those of you who have come to Christ Church just this year, this will be an outstanding way for you gain an understanding of your new parish community.
This painting of the Parable of the Mustard Seed, by local artist Jim Janknegt, has become for us an icon of God’s calling upon Christ Church in this season. It shows how God’s kingdom in Austin is like a tiny mustard seed that grows into a tree “…so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches” (Mt. 13:32). The King and his kingdom reign in the heart of the city. Christ Church is a branch giving shade to the city, a branch where birds of the air like you and your friends can make a home.
We have substantial updates on all fronts. You’ll get to see the current state of some beautiful design from our architects, hear the latest on our November 22nd launch of Church of the Cross (another branch of the kingdom!), and receive some reports on our work in the arenas of faith, work and community development. We’ll also be giving a financial report.
I’ll leave you with a couple of fun links. We are often talking about what it means to love our city, to become students of the place where we live. I stumbled upon these two creative ideas, hereand here, for paying attention to our surroundings.
On earth as it is in heaven,
