If you’re a Christian you’re just a shadow of your future self.” My first thought upon reading these words of N. T. Wright is “thank God!” (literally). That means I’m not stuck in the me I know all too well. We are all, with “unveiled face,” being transformed into the image of God from one degree of glory to another (2 Cor. 3:18).
This process is often called “spiritual formation,” the title of a new class that we are offering for the first time, taught by Christine Warner, beginning Sunday February 8 (see details below). From the class description:
“The term ‘Spiritual Formation’ describes the life-long process of being shaped by the Holy Spirit into the likeness of Christ for the sake of others and for the glory of God. Drawing upon the Scriptures and Christian traditions and experience, this class will explore the dynamic nature of the Spiritual Formation process, and introduce participants to a range of resources and practices to help nurture spiritual depth and personal growth.”
On another note, if you are interested in joining us this summer for our Guatemala mission trip, check out the information meetings listed below. This is often, for those who go, a powerful process of formation “for the sake of others and the glory of God”.
