In A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Bob Cratchit contemplates aloud, “Life is full of meetings and partings, that is the way of it.”
Shakespeare’s Juliet declares, “Parting is such sweet sorrow.”
We have all said goodbye when jobs force us to move, death takes a loved one, or kids go off to college. Life is full of meetings and partings, that is the way of it.
In June Christ Church will say goodbye to Michele and Rusty Gavin and the kids as they move to Houston where Rusty has recently taken a new job. The transition will also move the Gavins closer to their extended family.
Michele has been a valuable member of our staff and church family demonstrating skill, eagerness and love for her ministry at Christ Church. We are encouraged and blessed by her service to our parents and her passion to see the Gospel of Jesus presented in word and deed to our children.
Michele will stay on as our Children’s Ministry Director until June 15. We will take some time then to thank her and say goodbye. In the meantime, she will keep serving, and in true Michele fashion, will work to have the children’s ministry staffed and scheduled through the 2015 school year. This will give us the necessary time to conduct a proper search for a new Children’s Ministry Director.
With all due respect to Cratchit and Juliet, I think about this and other partings in my life and long for the day when we will be blessed by beautiful meetings and in no need for creative and meaningful ways to say goodbye.
