Nesting in the Branches

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes

Dear Christ Church family,

We have two important Sundays coming up, opportunities to step into community life at Christ Church.

First, on January 19 we will hold our Annual Parish Meeting in between services from 10:10 to 10:50. The first service will be slightly abbreviated. Join us as we remember God’s faithfulness to us in 2013, catch a glimpse of God’s call upon Christ Church in the months/years ahead and present the budget for 2014.

Second, on January 26 we will hold our next Membership Class in the Stott Room immediately following the second service. We want to see every person at Christ Church stand in the company of Christ and his people.

God’s kingdom in Austin is like a tiny mustard seed that grows into a tree, ” . . . so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches” (Mt. 13:32). As this powerful piece of art by local artist Jim Janknegt suggests, the King and his kingdom reign in the heart of the city. Christ Church is a branch giving shade to the city, a branch where birds of the air like you and your lost and broken friends can make a home.

Would you like to hear more about Christ Church, our history and future, our calling and passions? If you are not a member, I want to invite you to this next step of exploring the commitment. It is our deep desire that no one stand alone at Christ Church. Join us January 26, and please write Debi to let the office know you are coming.

Lastly, don’t miss this fantastic article by and about a couple of Christ Church-ers, just released as Christianity Today’s cover story. Andrea Dilley writes about the work of Bob Woodberry, who gave this talk as part of our Faith & Culture series.

PS Coming next in next week’s CliffNotes: a word about the sacredness of human life and Dr. Justin Dyer, a guest speaker coming soon to speak on the subject.
