It’s my joy to introduce you to Jonathan and Tish Warren, who have recently returned to Austin after 5 years in Nashville, in order to minister to graduate students and faculty at the University of Texas. As InterVarsity staff workers they will primarily be on campus, but will also serve within our own community of higher education faculty, staff and graduate students at Christ Church. The Warrens have a deep love for the body of Christ and, though not on Christ Church staff, will assume various ministry roles within our parish. Please read this more detailed introduction to learn more about them. And when you meet them, give them a warm Christ Church welcome!
Come to the Table is back already . . . Wed. September 4 @ 6:30pm! This is an evening meal and discussion, designed for you to invite anyone you know who does not have a church home, or who is a seeker or skeptic. We will discuss a Christian perspective on the relationship between meals and beauty, community, justice and hospitality. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot. Remember, you must bring an unchurched friend to attend. This is a great “low-key” and casual environment for conversation.
The Austin Institute is sponsoring a free public lecture by Princeton Professor of Jurisprudence Dr. Robert George, entitled “Five Pillars of a Decent and Dynamic Society.”
Explore God is almost here. Do you remember the numbers 300, 7 and 2? Over three hundred churches will spend seven weeks looking at tough questions non-Christians ask. Are there two people you can invite to engage these questions on a Sunday morning, in your small group and/or at Foodheads each Wednesday (light dinner served)?
Lastly, it’s Labor Day weekend, a national holiday to recognize the hard work of our labor force. Last year I preached on a Christian vision of the dignity, power and beauty of work. You can listen here.
Together for the gospel,
