God is love. It’s hard to hear those well-worn words with any force. Bumper stickers and slogans, if not sheer repetition in church, have reduced the power of these words. But we dismiss their meaning to our demise. Brennan Manning writes, “We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that He should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at His love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.”
This Sunday we conclude three months in the heart of Romans, walking together through chapters 5-8. We go out bewildered and stunned by the fathomless love of God, the deep and wide love that will not let us go.
Let’s conclude these penetrating chapters of Romans with high worship, rejoicing in the God of the gospel that brings us to our knees, rescues us and makes us new!
