Todd Hunter and Mission

Rev. Cliff WarnerCliffNotes

As you know, Peter Coelho’s ordination is just around the corner. He will be posting here next week to share some of his reflections at this crossroads. Since this is my last post before the ordination I want to say what a joy it is to partner with Peter in ministry. He is called and gifted, a man who has displayed character and a love for the bride of Christ. We will affirm together his calling on February 17 at the 11:00am service.

I want to introduce you to Bishop Todd Hunter, who will ordain Peter. Bishop Hunter is from California, where he was a leader within the Vineyard movement for many years, and then successor to John Wimber as head of the movement. He then served as U.S. Director of Alpha, the most fruitful evangelistic program of our generation. For several years now he has served as a Bishop and founder of Church for the Sake of Others (C4SO (http://www.c4so.org) ), an organization that supports Anglican church plants and church planting churches. His ministry is marked by apostolic initiative, and a passion for God’s reign in all of His creation.

Bishop Hunter is also the author of several books, including The Accidental Anglican and Christianity Beyond Belief. You can see a full listing of his books here (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keyw…) . We are excited to have him as a guest at Christ Church, and look forward to his ministry among us.

In a recent letter to clergy, Archbishop Duncan asked that all parishes of the Anglican Church of North America give special attention to world mission on the last Sunday of Epiphany, which is this Sunday. He writes about Acts 1:8 “This is each Christian’s call to engage in mission at every geographical level, from local to global.” He has also requested that we “collect a special world mission offering on that day to support the work of one of the Anglican Global Mission Partners (AGMP (http://www.agmp-na.org/) ).” This Sunday we will both highlight some of our own mission commitments and collect the special offering. There are some very exciting things happening through Anglicans globally, nationally and locally, right here at Christ Church.

Are you coming to the Hoedown? You can get tickets at the door. .
