This week’s CliffNotes is a guest post by Brian Murphy
Dear Christ Church,
Do you remember the grumpy guy in It’s a Wonderful Life who hollered at George, “Ah, youth is wasted on the wrong people?”
If you agree with him, you should hang out with the Christ Church youth group sometime. You may change your mind in a hurry. For example, the youth wrapped presents, sang carols and delivered some Christmas joy to a family in Austin this past Advent.
Or you could have ridden along with one of the teams that competed in a citywide scavenger hunt last summer. In one case at Goodwill it sounded something like this:
Youth Guy: “Excuse me, can you tell me where the underwear section is?”
Goodwill Employee: “Men’s or Women’s”
Youth Guy: “Doesn’t matter.”
The Christ Church youth group is led by a dedicated team of volunteers who make it their mission to encourage teenagers to follow God, develop close friendships and get involved in all areas of Christ Church. Check out our youth vision and strategy to accomplish this:
The youth group meets two times per month during the school year. Each meeting consists of food, hangout time, games, teaching, worship and small groups. In addition we have several special activities throughout the year like the citywide scavenger hunt, a service day at the Genesis Garden site and a lock-in or two.
Our first youth group meeting of the New Year is on Sunday, January 13 from 4:45 – 7:30pm at the church offices. We hope all who are in grades 7 – 12 will come out and join us.
