Two months ago I announced a candidate search for someone to provide administrative/operational leadership for Christ Church. Good news! Brian Murphy, with his wife Tamara and their four kids, will be moving to Austin next month to begin serving as Christ Church’s Executive Pastor. They will arrive mid-August from upstate New York, where he served in this same role at larger church, and where Tamara served part-time as Pastor of Worship and Arts. I am thankful for the great experience, deep and wide, that Brian will bring to our staff team.
What is an Executive Pastor? The two words describe it all. Brian will “execute” the vision and policies of Christ Church, from an operational standpoint. This means overseeing communications, facilities, volunteers, events, some staff, etc. as well as building and improving the systems and processes that enable us to be a church where “no one stands alone.” In addition, though it is not an ordained role, there is a pastoral component through mentoring, ministry and teaching some equipping classes.
In their recent visit to Austin, it was clear that the whole Murphy family (kids are ages 13-19) will be a joyful gift to Christ Church. I can’t wait for you to meet them all. Thank you for all your prayer the past two months for our new positions. We are still in the discernment process regarding an associate priest (or someone on the ordination track to priesthood). I am grateful for your prayer!
PS – This Sunday’s sermon is on physical healing; come ready to receive prayer for any needs you have.
